LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL ...

Dear DCIS Parents,

A huge thank-you to all our parent volunteers throughout the year. We were glad to see many of you at our Parent Appreciation Breakfast on Wednesday, May 16. Hope you enjoyed our small thank-you for the big help you are to our school. And for those who couldn't make it, thank you for your dedication of hours and time too. We hope to see you at next year's breakfast!

Our high school students are winding up their Advanced Placement exams this week, so if you hear a collective sigh of relief coming from the school, rest assured it is celebration of the end of standardized testing! Our senior class will complete Senior Checkout this Thursday and Friday, and will have next week off ahead of graduation day on Thursday, May 24. Meanwhile, all students in grades 6-11 are busy completing their end-of-year projects and preparing for final tests. Check out the calendar section above for important dates in these two weeks.
Hope to see you at many of these end-of-year events!

Theresa McCorquodale

DCIS LIVING WAX MUSEUM

As their final project, students will research and represent a historical figure or a commodity that was traded, or create an artifact replica and explain its importance, as part of a "Living Wax Museum." Students will present in class as their final and are eligible for extra credit if they stay after school on Friday, May 25, at 4:30 and showcase their talents as historians to friends and family. The event is open to the public, and everyone is welcome!

DPS SUBSTANCE USE PREVENTION PROGRAM ...

According to the 2015 Healthy Kids Survey, 10% of Denver Public School students reported having used prescription drugs without a prescription, and the average age of first use is 13. A survey conducted by SAMHSA shows that 80% of heroin users start with a prescription opioid, and 66% of people misusing prescription drugs obtained them from a friend or relative, indicating that drug abuse is starting in the home, not out on the streets.

Ensure your medicines are kept in a safe place, and that your child knows the dangers of misusing a drug that is not prescribed to them. Click here for information on how to keep your medicines safe.
