NEW WEBSITE!

DCIS gets to start the 2019-20 school year with a brand-new website, which is chock-full of new information and new organization that (hopefully) makes it easier to find what you're looking for. To see an overview of some of the new features, including an online store with all kinds of DCIS swag, a new and improved teacher directory, and various opportunities to provide feedback to DCIS, click here

RAISE YOUR HAND...

CSC
The DCIS Collaborative School Committee (CSC) is looking for two more parent members to join our committee. The purpose and scope of the CSC is to enhance student achievement and school climate and to provide strategic direction supporting the school's mission and vision, as articulated in the Unified Improvement Plan (UIP). Click here to learn more about the DCIS CSC. Nomination forms can be found here. Self-nomination is highly encouraged. Please return your nomination(s) to the office or via email no later than Wednesday, Aug. 28.  Ballots will go out on Thursday, Aug. 29.

Boxtops for Education
DCIS is now enrolled in the Box Tops for Education fundraising program. For the rest of the calendar year, you can submit the physical box top coupons that you find on many grocery items. Please clip them and bring them into the office. The company that manages Box Tops for Education is currently transitioning to an all-electronic system. As of 2020 it will no longer accept physical Box Top coupons. Parents/staff/community members simply need to download the Box Tops For Education app to their phone and scan in all grocery receipts to earn money for the school. We have set a fundraising goal of $1,000, which will go toward enhanced safety and security measures on campus. We are very excited for this opportunity and hope that everyone will take advantage of this free and easy way to raise funds for our school!

BACK TO SCHOOL...

2019-20 BELL SCHEDULE
This school year, DCIS will have different bell schedules for middle school and high school students Monday-Thursday. In order to keep up with our lunchtime club tradition and to make it easier for high school students to attend a wider variety of concurrent enrollment classes off-campus during the week, Fridays will be white days, with both middle and high school following the same bell schedule. Click here to see the complete schedule.

NEW CELLPHONE POLICY
DCIS has an updated cellphone policy. Middle school students are not allowed to use cellphones during school hours, and high school students can have phones out in class only with a teacher's permission. Click here for all the details.

STAY INFORMED
In addition to subscribing to this newsletter, you can download the Flyer School App from Google Play or the App Store. Once you have downloaded the Flyer App, you can select your language and then tap the + button to add our school, DCIS at Baker. Among other things, we use the app to send out push notifications letting you know when the weekly newsletter becomes available or to announce important events and highlight news at DCIS.

YEARBOOK PREORDER
Preorder your yearbook through TreeRing. Order before Monday, Sept. 30, to get a $6 discount. The regular price is $40.

COLORADO FREE COLLEGE APPLICATION DAY
For the second year in a row, the Colorado Department of Higher Education has teamed up with colleges and universities all across Colorado to waive college application fees for all Colorado students on Tuesday, Oct. 15. That means if you submit your application between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. that day, you can apply for free to any public Colorado institution and many private institutions.

Last year, Colorado students submitted almost 23,000 applications to Colorado colleges and universities for the state's first free application day. Officials from the state are hoping even more students take advantage of the opportunity this year.
