DCIS BUDGET FORUM Please join us next Wednesday, Jan. 15, from 6 to 7 pm in the DCIS Auditorium for a conversation about next year's budget and to share your thoughts on priorities and goals for DCIS in 2020 and beyond. Students, families, guardians, community members, staff and teachers — ALL are welcome, and we value everyone's input. If you are not able to attend, there will be an opportunity to share your thoughts via a Google form next week. NO SCHOOL: Monday, Jan. 20 CSC Meeting: Thursday, Jan. 16, 4:30-6:30 pm, Community Room Celebration of 7th Grade Students: Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1:30–2:30 pm Dine Out for DCIS: Wednesday, Jan. 22, 4-8 pm, Hapa Sushi in Cherry Creek  PTSA Board Meeting: Wednesday, Jan. 22, 6 pm, at Hapa Sushi Drama Club One-Acts: Friday, Jan. 31, 6 pm Drama Club One-Acts: Saturday, Feb. 1, 6 pm NO SCHOOL: Friday, Feb. 14, and Monday, Feb. 17 ATTENTION 8TH GRADE FAMILIES: CHANGE IN SCHOOL CHOICE POLICY All 8th graders at DCIS will automatically be enrolled in 9th grade at DCIS unless they fill out the choice form indicating another choice (or choices). For the past several years, the reverse has been true — 8th graders were automatically enrolled in their neighborhood school and had to fill out a choice form with DCIS as their first choice in order to remain at DCIS for high school.  TRAVEL CENTER NEWS ...  DCIS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS The DCIS Foundation second round to apply for travel scholarships will be open Jan. 17-31. All forms will be open and available at that time on the foundation's website. New policy: No group applications are accepted for grades 9-12. Group applications must come in as one group at one time for one trip. IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO APPLY! February 14 is the second application deadline for CIEE programs and scholarships. Students may apply for scholarships based on merit or merit and need. TRAVEL SPOTLIGHT ON ... EXPERIENCE AMERICA   Experience America is offering an art trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico, over Spring Break 2021. This trip will include lots of hands-on art experiences as well as local food and music, as well as a visit to Meow Wolf! If you've never been to Santa Fe, it's like going to another world, steeped in Spanish colonial and Native American culture. Check out their program and tours here. RAISE YOUR HAND...  COLLABORATIVE SCHOOL COMMITTEE (CSC) Our next meeting will be Thursday, Jan. 16, at 4:30 pm in the Community Room. As always, we welcome public comment at our meetings. If you are unable to attend, please reach out to one of the CSC reps.  The CSC would like to welcome Robert Quist as its newest parent/guardian member. The CSC received only one nomination for the open spot, so an election will not be necessary. PTSA Looking for a volunteer opportunity where you can make an impact in the DCIS community? Consider joining the PTSA Board of Directors for a two-year term, beginning next fall with the 2020-21 school year. We are recruiting individuals who are interested in running for the following officer positions: President, Vice President and Secretary. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Lucy Rosas or call 602-315-6257. Elections will be held in March 2020. TEACHER WISH LISTS We're still looking to fulfill the wishes of our teachers. ARTS AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION ...  VISUAL ARTS Students don't forget to come to the art room and get your art from last semester! Dr. Marion doesn't have space to store it, so unfortunately it will be recycled or disassembled for parts by Friday, Jan. 17 at 3:15 pm. School service opportunities abound in the art room — sorting, cutting, washing, labeling and stocking stuff can be done during off-periods or lunch or after school. Calendar of Visual Art Events DRAMA The One Acts will be on Friday, Jan. 31, and Saturday, Feb. 1, at 6 pm. Students $3, Adults $5. Tickets sold only at the door. CONNECT ...
