Scholarship Information and Deadlines for Fall 2019

This year the DCIS Foundation is putting the Scholarship orientation and applications online. Moving the process online will allow for more student flexibility, better school travel coordinator guidance (Sally Bishop), and the ability for students to share information with their parent(s) or guardian(s) more easily.

The applications will be ready by Friday, Oct. 4,  and the submission period is open Oct. 4–14. Visit the
Foundation website for more information.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL ...

Greetings DCIS Community,

It's hard to believe that we are one month into the school year and are already starting the 2020–21 DCIS recruiting season. With that, I want to thank the amazing group of parents and staff who are hard at work to make sure that we are communicating why DCIS would be a good fit for students who are lovers of languages, want to develop a global perspective, and want to take action to serve others.

At the same time, I'm asking for your help. Please reach out and share with friends and families what you love about our school. Your personal experiences and opinions are much more persuasive to potential parents than a brochure. Information about open houses and shadowing is now available on the
website.

Thanks in advance for your help in recruiting an amazing class!

Cheers,
Dr. Gamba

RAISE YOUR HAND...

DINE OUT FOR DCIS TONIGHT!
Please join us at California Pizza Kitchen in the Cherry Creek Mall between 11 am and 10 pm on Thursday, Sept. 19, to Dine Out for DCIS. Can't stay for a sit-down meal? Takeout is included! Let your server know you're there to support DCIS and 20 percent of your check will be donated to the DCIS PTSA. Save yourself some time in the kitchen and raise some serious dough for DCIS!

CALLING ALL PARTY PLANNERS
DCIS Foundation is looking for creative and fun team members who want to help DCIS students become confident global citizens. If you are interested, please reach out to Anne Usman, DCISF Events Chairwoman.

AMAZON SMILE
DCIS is a registered charity on AmazonSmile! You can contribute to the PTSA by selecting our organization (search for DCIS PTSA) as your AmazonSmile under My Account. Make all your Amazon.com purchases at smile.amazon.com. There is no cost to you, and Amazon will donate a percentage of your purchase to the DCIS PTSA. In order for the PTSA to get credit for your purchase, it must be made through the smile.amazon.com website. We are very excited about this fundraising opportunity for our school! Please participate in our community by adding this simple step every time you make a purchase from Amazon.
ARTS AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION...

ART
Last week Kite Master Mikio Toki came to DCIS from Japan and showed 200+ Japanese, Chinese, Art and PE students how to make Tokyo-style kites with washi paper, bamboo, watercolor, string and tape. Students made beautiful kites and flew them with great success. Some are now designing more complicated kites for a project. Thank you, Mr. Matsumoto, for coordinating this experience! This week middle school students experimented with oil pastels and optical illusions, and high schoolers practiced with acrylics, clay and soft chalk pastels and considered theme in their projects.
TRAVEL CENTER NEWS...

GUATEMALA TRIP
Please join Kristen Miller and Luke Mueller from Walking Tree Travel on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 6 pm, in the Community Room to learn about the upcoming middle school trip to Guatemala. Students will be working on a service project, hiking a volcano, learning about Mayan traditions, swimming and kayaking, zip-lining through the jungle, and improving or learning Spanish. Program tuition is $2,290.

ITALIAN CULTURAL EXCHANGE
A BIG THANK-YOU to all the families who hosted Italian exchange students Sept. 3–13. The students left very happy with their experiences. Your generosity and flexibility have significantly enhanced the lives of 15 very satisfied Italian teenagers!
