Dear DCIS Families, Today, the DCIS PTSA is launching a STAFF SUPPORT DRIVE with the goal of fulfilling 100% of our DCIS staff's URGENT needs on the Staff Wish List within the next two weeks. Some examples of needs: - Sticky notes for Ms. Rivera, packing tape for Ms. Burns, markers for Mr. Garvey...Over 100 different supply needs shared by staff
- Digital cameras for Yearbook
- Supplemental reading materials for the 7th grade language arts classroom
- Volunteering in the front office to answer phones in the morning
Why do we have a Staff Wish List? Despite the booming economy in our state, Colorado is 43rd in the nation when it comes to school funding — below the national average by $2,704 per student. So, for example, a school the size of DCIS in Nebraska receives $2 million more per year than us. What's that mean for our school and your student(s)? A lot. For example: - Teachers are expected to do more with less, which often means paying out of their own pocket for classroom supplies. As parents, we think this is unacceptable. We would not tolerate this at our own places of work.
- School budgets are extremely tight and allow for very few expenses besides the bare minimum required to staff a building and keep the lights on. Your students deserve better!
The needs are great, but meeting them will be a snap if we, as parents, pitch in via this staff support drive. Folks with anywhere from $5 or $100 to spare this week can make a big difference. If you are able, turn staff wishes into reality TODAY by - Donating items on their Staff Wish List
- Providing a tax-deductible donation to the PTSA to purchase items (via credit/debit card or cash/check sent to the school office)
- Volunteering
Every single donation matters. Go to the PTSA page on the school website to access the staff wish list at any time. We'll keep track of the drive's progress in the school newsletter and on the PTSA webpage. If you have any questions, please contact Karen Mortimer at dcis.ptsa2@gmail.com or 303-910-6698. Thank you for helping to make the STAFF SUPPORT DRIVE a success! Sincerely, The DCIS PTSA Board | |
