TONIGHT!

RIDING THE ROLLER-COASTER OF ADOLESCENCE

Adolescence can be a tricky time for your kids as their bodies and brains rapidly change, not to mention their hormones, thoughts and feelings. Dealing with the flurry of changes that propel kids into young adulthood can also be hugely challenging for parents, especially if the changes seem to happen overnight. The good news is … you're not alone!

Join your fellow parents in learning to recognize, understand, successfully navigate and help your kids manage the crazy roller-coaster ride of adolescence in TONIGHT's presentation, sponsored by the DCIS PTSA, in the DCIS cafeteria.

The presentation is 6–6:30 pm, followed by a 15-minute Q&A session. Following the presentation, the PTSA will hold its last meeting of the 2017-18 school year, during which it will discuss next year's PTSA officers and plans, wrapping up by 7:30 pm. Childcare and simultaneous interpretation provided.

What about dinner tonight? Swing by Chipotle at 6th & Broadway between 4 and 8 pm, mention the DCIS PTSA when you order, and 50% of your order amount will be donated to the PTSA! We need at least $300 in sales to qualify, so please stop by! Dine in or grab and go, as you're welcome to bring your dinner to the meeting.

Questions? Contact Karen at gkmortimer@gmail.com or 303-910-6698.

LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL ...

Dear DCIS Parents,

Our school received FANTASTIC news this week. U.S. News & World Report named DCIS as one of the Top Ten High Schools in Colorado! We were ranked at No. 6 in the state and No. 3 in Denver Public Schools. Given that the only two schools ahead of us in DPS are both charter schools, we essentially are the No. 1 non-charter high school in the city! Yay, DCIS!!!!! We have our amazing staff, our terrific students and our supportive parents to thank for this honor. So thank you!

And speaking of thanks, thanks to all the parents for the gift cards and treats during Staff Appreciation Week. We are so grateful to you and are looking forward to the staff breakfast the parents are planning for us on June 1. Knowing that we have the support of our parents means so much to us. Again, thank you.

We would love to get more feedback from parents about what we are doing well as well as where we can grow. We would really appreciate it if you could take a few moments to complete the online Parent Feedback Survey here. The deadline is tomorrow, May 11, so if you can find the time in the next day or so, please let us know what you think by completing the survey. Thanks in advance for your time.

Finally, I would like to plug the powwow being hosted by our very own Lakota students, tomorrow from 2:30 to 6 pm on the DCIS field. Come out and join the fun!

Thank you again for all your support!

Theresa McCorquodale
