LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL ...
Dear DCIS Parents,
While I often use this space to discuss upcoming meetings, data trends, policies for attendance/tardies, etc., I would like to use this week's letter as a space to say thank you. I am thankful for all the parent support you provide. Parent support looks different for each family. Support can mean checking in with your child on homework, waking your child up in morning so she can get to school on time, attending school meetings, volunteering with our PTSA and so much more. I am grateful for ALL the ways that parents support their students and our school. Thank you.
And of course, I am grateful for our wonderful students. Our students greet visitors like pros. They hold the door for one another. They engage joyfully in the learning environment every day. Just today, we had a group of 10 visitors tour the school and give us some feedback. One of the things they noticed was the joyful tone in almost every class they visited. They saw kids caring about their school and about their learning while being happy about it. Every visitor commented on how impressed they were with our students and with the tone in the building. Our students are indeed impressive! I am grateful for them every day.
Finally, I am grateful for the overall DCIS community. Our teachers, students and staff as a whole are committed to our mission and care deeply both about education and about the world. With the Thanksgiving season upon us, I wanted to be sure to take a moment away from the data and statistics (even though they are important to monitor) and instead focus on being grateful for all the DCIS has to offer. I am thankful for the privilege of serving as the principal of this amazing school. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
Theresa McCorquodale DCIS Principal
The DCIS Drama Club presents THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH Thursday–Saturday, Nov. 16–18, 6 pm, Auditorium Tickets: $5 for students; $8 for adults Tickets are also available at the door
Join the Denver Center for International Studies Drama Club for a performance of "The Phantom Tollbooth." Based on the venerated children's book, a young boy's magical journey proves that life is the greatest adventure of all. Even surrounded by dozens of toys, Milo is bored. Nothing interests him at all. The Phantom Tollbooth comes to the rescue! Transported to the Land of Wisdom, Milo is thrust into adventure when told Princesses Rhyme and Reason need rescuing to bring peace between two kings. They are divided over which is more important: words or numbers. Knee-deep in danger, language and math along the way, Milo learns everything has a purpose. Upon his return home, he realizes there is never a reason to be bored in a world full of so many things to discover. We hope you join us to see this splendid performance!
WAKE UP AND SELL THE COFFEE!!
It's that time of year again ... we're kicking off our 2ND ANNUAL COFFEE FUNDRAISER! Pablo's Coffee, one of Denver's first craft coffee roasters — which happens to be owned by one of our wonderful DCIS families — is again creating a Special DCIS Holiday Blend to help us raise funds to support opportunities for our DCIS students and our school community.
For about the cost of three lattes, you and your friends and family can buy an ENTIRE BAG of this crowd-pleasing medium roast … or two … or ten! A great gift for grandparents, other family members, friends, neighbors, Secret Santa recipients, DCIS staff … anyone who loves a good cuppa joe.
This year, orders will be online only. You can find the order form here, via the icon on the DCIS Connect app home page and on the school website. All orders must be placed by Monday, Dec. 11. Coffee will be delivered to your student on Monday, Dec. 18.
The family with the most sales will win a fabulous prize. We'll unveil that next week in an email to all families, along with some tips and tricks for maximizing sales.
Thank you for your support!
