LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL ...
Dear DCIS Parents,
What a week of great news for DCIS! First of all, we had a huge turnout for our New Student/New Parent night, with more than 150 families in attendance. Our Student Ambassadors and parent volunteers did a fantastic job in both welcoming and informing all of our new "Phoenixes to be," and the night was a huge success.
Second, DCIS was named by the educational international tour group EF Tours as the No. 1 high school in Colorado for exchange students, which presented us with the Global Education Excellence Award. Very cool. Come by the main office and check out the new plaque.
And last but not least, this week U.S. News & World Report released its list of top high schools. DCIS was rated No. 12 in Colorado, which is quite an honor. Of the DPS schools that made this prestigious list, DCIS is No. 3 in the district, behind two charter schools. So take a moment to congratulate yourself and your students for making DCIS one of the best schools in the city, the state and the country!
To celebrate, come out to see our wonderful spring musical, "Once Upon a Mattress," which will be performed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, starting at 6 pm. Also, if your child has not purchased a DCIS yearbook for this award-winning year, please take a moment to order one today (check out the notice below on how to order).
As always, thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us. They make DCIS a great place to be.
Theresa McCorquodale DCIS Principal

INNOVATORS DINNER WITH THE FOUNDER OF MIT D-LAB Co-creating Simple Solutions to Change Lives Friday, May 5, 6–8:30 pm, Posner Center, 1031 33rd St., Denver (map) Click here for tickets
Join us at the 3rd Annual Posner Center Innovators Dinner to learn about the power of simple design and support innovation in international development. The evening will feature Amy Smith, the Founder of MIT D-Lab, a university-based program that equips individuals with the skills to design simple technologies that solve challenges in their lives. All proceeds from the evening will support the Posner Center's efforts to promote learning and innovation within our network.
Amy was selected as a 2004 MacArthur Fellow, and was named in 2010 as one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people for her work promoting local innovation and technology creation. D-Lab connects university-level design curriculum with international field work through their unique Creative Capacity Building (CCB) approach that allows anyone to become an active creator of technology. Through CCB, participants are trained on key elements of the design process, and they use these skills to create technologies to strengthen their communities.
The evening will include a social hour, followed by dinner and a formal program featuring a keynote address by Amy Smith.
