AP EXAM FEES DUE FRIDAY If your student is taking one or more AP exams this spring, AP Exam fees are due TOMORROW, Friday, March 15. If your student qualifies for free and reduced lunch, please email Ms. Masich to obtain the form allowing the district to release information about your status to the AP program. If your student does not bring back this form, or if you do not qualify for free and reduced lunch, the cost of each exam is $94. If your family does qualify, the cost is reduced to $16. Payment may be made in the front office with one of the secretaries or online by March 15. IF YOUR STUDENT DOES NOT PAY BY THE DEADLINE, THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE THE EXAM. No exceptions will be made. Dear DCIS Families,   We are proud of the ongoing work in this community to make our school better. I have met dozens of family members and many more students who are dedicated to this school being safe, comfortable, fun and empowering. Please keep sharing with us the ideas you all have for what we should keep doing and what we can be doing even better.   Last week we agreed as a staff that we will have Advisement again next year. We are still finalizing decisions about the exact bell schedule, but we appreciate that so many of you completed surveys to share your opinions. The counseling team is also working to be able to sign up students for their 2019-2020 school year classes in the coming weeks.   The main focus of our school and in the coming weeks is our academic work. Please talk with your child about what new ideas came up in classes, what skills are being honed, and how they are pushing to learn and do more every day. Right after spring break we will start our state testing, and we're counting on every DCIS student to show off what they can do, just like we see in Drama Club productions, Passages, Senior Presentations and more.   Together in the work, Jenn Zinn RAISE YOUR HAND ... We need your help to improve your school and community. By calling, you can help stop a friend from committing suicide, get another student off drugs or stop a bully from making other people miserable. You also may make an anonymous web tip or download the Safe2Tell mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Remember, your identity is safe. No one will ask for your name or number. There is no caller id., no call tracing, no call recording and no call forwarding. We only want to hear your concern and try to help. The anonymity of all Safe2Tell Colorado reports is protected by C.R.S. 07-197. This Colorado state law means the reporting party remains UNKNOWN. Safe2Tell Colorado is for serious concerns and focuses on saving lives of Colorado students. Should Safe2Tell Colorado become the victim of prank calls, the line will be forwarded and traced with law enforcement notified immediately. Deliberate false reports made by phone, online or mobile app may be investigated. Use Safe2Tell Colorado wisely! POUR PAINTING COMMUNITY SOCIAL The DCIS PTSA is excited to announce that we will be having a Pour Painting night TOMORROW, Friday, March 8, 6-8 pm, in the DCIS Cafeteria for International Women's Day. All are welcome! The painting project will be hosted by Spectra Art Space. The event starts with writing a manifestation on the back of the canvas, which the host will provide. Then, each individual is given a cup to fill with different colors of paint, each color labeled with a feeling or emotion such as gratitude, compassion, etc. Afterward, participants are invited to share their manifestation and how they feel about their painting.  The cost for each participant is $25, and parents are encouraged to bring a friend or two. A second painting can be done for $10 more. These could be nice gifts, but the intent is to bring our parents together and create community within the school. DCIS Parents,    We learned this week that Mrs. McCorquodale won't be returning during this school year. We all continue to keep her and her family in our thoughts, and I know this news is difficult to hear as we look ahead to the last quarter. Please know that the DCIS team is committed to ensuring a strong end to the school year, and I will continue to serve the team and the mission of the school community in the coming months. This week's update is very similar to what we shared last week — the school is buzzing with a focused push on our academic work. As you know, the weeks after Spring Break will go by quickly and will include different opportunities for DCIS students to show what they can do. On April 9, middle schoolers will not have school while the 9th, 10th and 11th graders take their PSATs and SATs. Until then we are making the most of every minute we have in classrooms. Thank you for supporting your child's academic work when you see them after school and when you send them to us every morning. At ADOLESCO YOUTH EXCHANGE we will match you with a student about your own age in France, Germany, Italy or Spain (your choice); you will decide exactly WHEN (whatever's best for your schedule) and for HOW LONG (6 to 12 weeks) you want to go on exchange and host as part of our flexible and affordable nonprofit language immersion and cultural exchange program for qualifying students between ages 9 and 18. We typically have two matchings per year. The next one is coming up in April with an application due date of March 15; the one after that is in November with an application due date of October 31.
